Rivers that you can canoe & kayak include the Magalloway River, the Kennebago River and the Cupsuptic River.

River Trips:

The Cupsuptic River takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to paddle and has an easy access point. To get to the put-in take route 4 out of Rangeley toward Oquossoc and turn right on Route 16 towards Wilsons Mills. About 1 mile past the Maine Forest Service Station you will see the Public Boat Access sign. Don’t cross the bridge, the access point is on the right side of the road. The river becomes impassable about 1.75 miles up just after a cabin on the left called Mooch’s. The river has very little current and you turn around and return to the put-in.

The Magalloway River trip requires a car shuttle. It is a 5.5-mile paddle and takes about 3 hours. To get to the put-in access point take route 4 out of Rangeley toward Oquossoc and turn right on Route 16 towards Wilsons Mills. At Wilson’s Mills, as you come up to the bridge, turn right on Bennett Road, then immediately turn left to the launching point. The take-out point is at the bridge crossing the river at the Maine-New Hampshire boarder on Route 16. It is a steep take-out.

The Kennebago River is a very popular paddle destination because of its high moose and wildlife sightings. It also requires a car shuttle and is about a three-mile paddle. To get to the put-in access point take route 4 out of Rangeley toward Oquossoc and turn right on Route 16 towards Wilsons Mills. Go 1.3 miles to the Kennebago River Road on the right. Go 2 miles on this gravel road to the ‘Steep Bank Pool’ on the left, and park on the right. You will get to a gate if you have gone too far, just turn around and go back a tenth of a mile. You will see a path and steps down to the water for launching your canoe or kayak. There is a ledge around the first bend which in low water you might have to carry over, and in high water you might want to portage depending on your comfort level. After the ledge it is flat water to the route 16 bridge where you take-out. To shuttle a car for the take-out, go back to route 16 and turn right. Go .1 miles and park on the left side before the bridge. You can also hire Rivers Edge Sport Shop for a shuttle.
