XC & Alpine Skiing

The snow is always deeper and fresher in the Rangeley region. As you drive up route 4 you will notice that you are gaining a lot of elevation. Even when we have the driest of winters, there is always snow in Rangeley because of the elevation gain. It has a natural snowfall average of 200 inches.

Saddleback Mountain is an incredible mountain to ski or ride! It is a family-friendly mountain, with slopes for beginners as well as excellent expert terrain glades and steep narrow trails. It has better prices, fewer people, and better terrain than other resorts in Maine. It has peaks of over 4,000 feet, and the highest base elevation of any resort in New England. The Rangeley Lakes Nordic Trails Center is located two miles from the base of Saddleback Mountain. It has miles of groomed trails, all of which are set with classic tracks and a separate skating lane. The trails weave through the 8,000 acres of the Saddleback preserve and offer a variety of skiing opportunities for all ability levels, beginner to expert. The center has a yurt to warm up in and buy hot chocolate and snacks. They also provide lessons and rentals.
